4th of July at Powderhorn Park

The homeless population in South Minneapolis has always had a struggle to find a community, structure, or footing to be able to bounce back to independence. With the recent riots engulfing the city like a wildfire many of the homeless were displaced due to lack of permanent placement. After being moved around for the third time, they found a temporary home in Powderhorn Park. Though the city would soon pass legislation to remove the encampment.

Waking up at 6:30am on the 4th of July, we drove up to the west side of the park where many volunteers had already set up a donation tent with a food bank. Shepherds Works was able to cook and give away 220 pounds of BBQ chicken and 60 pounds of black beans and rice. We were so blessed to come together on this day with so many other groups, with one common goal, of helping thy neighbor.

We are grateful to our donors and volunteers for helping us to give food and spread love in our community.
